The Stiftung Kloster Ilsenburg (Ilsenburg Abbey Foundation) has set itself the task of saving a unique treasure of German cultural history from falling into disrepair and of preserving it for future generations.
The Harz mountains between Goslar and Quedlinburg represent one of the most an-cient cultural-historical regions of Germany. At its very centre lies one of the most important abbeys in northern Germany, Kloster Ilsenburg [Ilsenburg Abbey]. Its architectural and cultural history is such that this abbey is important in not only national, but also in European terms. Many mediaeval documents, relating to this abbey, are kept in Rome and Avignon.
On 15th April 2003 the abbey celebrated its 1000th anniversary. Its preservation and repair are an enormous challenge for the Ilsenburg Abbey Foundation. Even at the present stage of reconstruction work the Foundation has already made great strides towards the restoration and utilisation of this valuable monument.
In order to meet this challenge, the Foundation needs financial and material support and any other form of help. We would be grateful for any contribution you can make to the successful outcome of this project.
